Technology, tested differently

About UncommonBits

UncommonBits is an independent technology publication. We buy the products we review, use them for real work, and publish what we found.

Why this exists

Most coverage of AI software is written by people who have not used it. Press releases get rewritten, feature lists get reformatted into listicles, and scores get assigned to products nobody opened. The result is an enormous amount of writing that cannot help you decide anything.

We started UncommonBits to do the slow version. We pick a narrow set of products, use them for days rather than minutes, record what worked and what broke, and publish the evidence alongside the conclusion.

Who runs UncommonBits

[ FILL IN ] Replace this box with your own name, photograph and background. Say who you are, what you have worked on, and why you are equipped to judge the products you review. Be specific about years and roles. This is the single most important paragraph on the site: readers and search engines both use it to decide whether your scores mean anything. Do not publish a person’s name here unless it is your own or they have given written permission.

What we cover

AI software and the practical technology people use to get work done. Reviews, comparisons, guides and analysis. We would rather be genuinely useful on a narrow subject than shallow across a wide one, so we will widen the beat only when we have earned the right to.

How we test

Every score comes from hands-on use against a published rubric, scored in whole and half points, with the testing period and task count printed on the review. Read the full methodology.

How we are funded

Affiliate commissions and, in time, newsletter sponsorships. Neither has any influence on scores, rankings, or what we choose to cover. Full disclosure.

Ownership

[ FILL IN ] Name the legal entity that owns and operates UncommonBits, where it is registered, and any parent company or investor with a stake in it. If it is a sole trader, say so. Readers are entitled to know who is behind what they are reading.

Our standards

Our commitments on independence, sourcing, AI use, corrections and commercial content are published in full:
